Mike wrote: "I'm not qualified to speak from an informed position on this subject except to say I was raised in the fleeting days of unspoiled Appalachian culture before it was 'discovered,' 'blended' and labeled 'traditional.' In talking with Lanier Meaders not too long before he died the discussion turned to face jugs. He didn't enjoy making them, but did so because tourists saw them as traditional folk art and it put food on the table. By 'distracting his talents' much of the world will never see his artistic talent in beautifully composed decorative pieces that he preferred to make.
