It drives me crazy for the James Dobsons of this world to refer to "government schools," conjuring up pictures of children in uniforms being forced to spout propaganda. Public schools are OUR schools. I have a fantasy in which all those parents who send their kids to private schools take the thousands of dollars they spend for that and donate it to public schools. Not gonna happen, but it's a nice dream.

No matter where we lived and as a military family we moved often, my children attended public school. Even when sent to Va right after forced integration and even when my kids were bussed for integration, we stayed in public education. Results>? 4 college graduates from those days, one Phd of the 4. ONe runs her onw business in a medical field ohe teaches, one is in the graphic desin filed. All educated thru what was supposed to be a miserable public education when integrated with "those kids". I do not understand the state subsidizing the destruction of the public school system thru SB10 and charters. Looks like and sounds like the state is shooting themselves in the foot and making their own cartridges to do so.

I think where we as Democrats can legitimately score some points with the anti-Common Core sentiment is against standardized testing. If we put a focus there, we will be able to make inroads while steering the focus away from the curriculum itself, which isn't really a problem, other than how it's been rolled out in Mathematics particularly.

CHecking out David PErdue's remarks in Gainesville Times today. Wouldn't normally bother, but his remarks are so egregious, I couldn't help doing my own fact check. :He isn't doing badly at untruths.
doing badly on untruths. Today in the Gainesville Times, you are quoted as saying that you are opposed to Common Core and that 50 years of federalized education have failed. Then you go on to say that countries like Peru and Columbia perform better in math and science at the 14yo level. You use that as proof that federalization of education has failed in the US. JUST SO YOU KNOW: Peru has the best education in South America with free public education from K-college. - and it is nationalized . Columbia also has a nationalized education system. Both have dictates from the national education ministry to the local level.
