Thought provoking article. I don't any good comes from riots and it deserves to be condemned. As the article says though, rioting and violence are part of the human condition. So it is so easy to condemn others while ignoring those who look like yourself, or with whose cause has your support. What if all the people rioting in Ferguson bought assault weapons and American flags, and then marched on the police with superior weapons/numbers aka Clive Bundy? Would that then be o.k. with our Tea Party brethren?

The oft quoted by MLK is certainly appropriate. The rioting is the voice of the unheard.

It does seem inevitable in nations that employ violence within national policy as an appropriate option to achieve its aims. In some degree it has accompanied political revolutions. However it in itself rarely if ever brings solutions. Let's just scare the hell out of them with our numbers and widespread geography.

IMO we must take seriously what I have observed of the increased militarization and nationalization of domestic law enforcement. I really fear it now is in danger of full transformation in its role from citizen protection to the citizens perceived as enemies to be controlled .

Riots are a necessary part of the evolution of society. Unfortunately, we do not live in a universal utopia where people have the basic human rights they deserve simply for existing, and until we get there, the legitimate frustration, sorrow and pain of the marginalized voices will boil over, spilling out into our streets. As "normal" citizens watchthe events of Ferguson unfurl on their television screens and Twitter feeds, there is a lot of head shaking, finger pointing, and privileged explanation going on. We wish to seclude the incident and the people involved. To separate it from our history as a nation, to dehumanize the change agents because of their bad and sometimes violent decisions—because if we can separate the underlying racial tensions that clearly exist in our country from the looting and rioting of select individuals, we can continue to ignore the problem. http://time.com/3605606/ferguson-in-defense-of-rioting/
