The ONLY Letter to the Editor in the Dahlonega Nugget for August 27, 2014.

Shooting in Helen proves new gun law should be repealed

Dear Editor:
I read with interest the
editorial in the White County
News regarding the recent
shooting death in Helen.
Publisher Billy Chism,
the White County Sheriff,
and the Chief Deputy all have
voiced the strong, and in my
opinion accurate contention
that guns and alcohol are a
deadly combination.
One of our elected state
officials responding to my
email on this tragedy stated
that while the shooter should
have exercised more care, his
right to carry is constitutionally
protected.
Now don't get me wrong—
we should all exercise more
care when drinking. That's
why we have laws against
drinking and driving. Matter
of fact, doesn't Dahlonega
have a laws against walking
around and drinking?
But constitutionally protected
to fiddle with a gun
while drinking in a public
place? No, No, a thousand
times No!
If our so-called "Founding
Fathers" could look down and
see what we are doing with
that silly Second Amendment,
they would be shaking
their heads in amazement
and in horror.
In conclusion may I ask:
Where is the outrage? Where
is the shame?
The guns everywhere law
is a disgrace. It is a blot on the
State of Georgia. It should be
repealed by the next session
of the legislature.
Thomas MacMillan
Dahlonega,
gun owner
