As I have repeatedly said. I favor most of what they are doing but it is plain stupid to just because Obama and Democrats enacted the ACA and Medicare changes to just knee jerk accept that there are not many misrepresentations and terrible errors in judgment in design and application.

As always the tables that show statistical averages rarely reflect the individual experience. In order to make the figures good for the large population centers the insurance companies are virtually closing out rural areas.

Last year in Dawson County I had the choice of only 4 plans and only 2 that even offered as good as $600 deductibles for Tier 3 and 4 drugs which cost in the range of $4000 per month. -- and some lower co-pay. The one I have this year is $64 and I have a choice of only three pharmacies to have the lowest co-pay rate. Yes the law provides for some incremental relief for the large co-pays that involves additional paper work and certification. It will hopefully get there but not unless the funds are made available.

As to health insurance carriers for younger people in Hall the city employees and many others had only two choices and for a while one because BC/BS failed to contract with the NE GA Med center monopoly.

THERE ARE NO DEATH PANELS.

There is a lot of ignorance among those who are writing the laws, providing the funding and cultural pressures. We have had this discussion before. The most pernicious misconception is that the cause of high costs for medical care is over utilization and the best method of cost cutting is to cut the more expensive treatments, -- by way of a variety of disincentives to treat.

Dietary counseling is great and frankly it is cheap. Same for birth control. etc.

And I know I will benefit greatly by being instructed via ACA mandate that it is not safe to have loose rugs on the floor and good to know how to use a fire extinguisher. My mandated "depression screening" questionnaire include the question "do you ever worry about something bad happening?" It at 83 you don't worry about something bad happening you are out of contact with reality. Idiots!

medicare currently has many 100% free to the beneficiary screenings and many specialized programs for certain chronic diseases. i will have to check up on zeke. first i heard of this. around here i notice that a lot of people die early due to bad diet and other bad habits that are strictly self selected. diabetes, heart disease, lung cancer, kidney failure, etc. etc.
