There is a lot of ignorance among those who are writing the laws, providing the funding and cultural pressures. We have had this discussion before. The most pernicious misconception is that the cause of high costs for medical care is over utilization and the best method of cost cutting is to cut the more expensive treatments, -- by way of a variety of disincentives to treat. Dietary counseling is great and frankly it is cheap. Same for birth control. etc. And I know I will benefit greatly by being instructed via ACA mandate that it is not safe to have loose rugs on the floor and good to know how to use a fire extinguisher. My mandated "depression screening" questionnaire include the question "do you ever worry about something bad happening?" This is the basis of the 'death panel' scare and it is baseless. W Lorraine Watkins 6:14pm Sep 29 My D premiums are $65/mo in order to get SOME coverage for the $4000 per month medications I am at risk of requiring and a minimal co-pay. The so called filling in of the doughnut hole is only $250 of $2900 give or take. In addition Medicare B premiums did go up for the higher incomes with the ACA . My $150/mo B supplement has gone up this year to $180. And then we have Zeke Emanuel Obama inner circle confidant and special adviser on Medicare services out promoting "natural death" by ending cancer and other screening and expensive procedures etc. after age 75 because he judges our lives not worth living. ( I am not saying panic. I am saying, just because they are Democrats does not mean they have good judgment, much less the real knowledge and they need to be watched.)
